I got my first camera at the age of 8. It was a Kodak Brownie Instamatic given to me for my birthday. From that point on I was the official photographer for our family vacations. I never had any photographic training until I joined the army in 1966 and was stationed in Northern Japan. I purchased a Pentax SLR and began taking a photography correspondence course. I left the service in 1975 and as it is with many young people, my daily life got in the way of my “hobby” and my interest in photography was put on the back burner.

It wasn’t until 2000 when my wife and I moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico and started a vacation property management company (Hummingbird Cabins) that my interest in taking pictures was renewed.  I began taking photos of the properties we managed, however they were still just basic “snap shot” photos to give context the homes on the web, but they did the job at the time.

When I retired in 2012 I decided to pursue my passion for photography once again. I purchased a Nikon D-7100 and signed up for an online study course with Lynda.com and began looking into HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography and how such photos would give a better impression of the properties managed by Hummingbird.  I soon began shooting for Hummingbird and their rentals began to increase proving that the HDR photos helped customers get a better feel for the homes they were looking for.

Since that time I have expanded my customer base to several other property management companies and real estate agents in the Ruidoso area. It turns out that retirement is much more fun when you are doing something you love to do.
